Medina is a mostly residential city on a peninsula in Lake Washington directly east of Seattle. While Medina is a separate city it is closely related to the City of Bellevue which it borders. Medina has just under 3,000 residents. Although Medina’s population in not extensive, it is the home of some of Washington State’s, if not the World’s, most affluent individuals. Residents include Bill Gates, the founder of Microsoft, and Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon.
While the first Medina mansion was built in 1920’s most of Medina did not get developed until the 1940’s. Previously, the access to and from Seattle was by ferry or driving around Lake Washington, but the first bridge over the lake was completed in 1940.
Medina real estate has an average price of nearly $3 million in 2020 which is nearly 4 times the average Seattle home price. Medina is on a peninsula so there are many waterfront homes and the lots tend to be large, which adds to the value of the area’s luxury homes.
